I know I have proudly presented images of my little grandson to you all before, but I had the pleasure of a surprise visit from him (and his parents of course) this weekend. Needless to say, I fell behind on my school work but it's not every weekend I get to see him.
My proposal to you all is this... what do you see in this photo that you might correct or do differently? Seriously, you all are so nice about what you like in these posts, but step up and tell me what you might do differently or change or add to! The process of criticism does not have to be "harsh" words, but simply a matter-of-fact personal response to an image you see. Whenever all of you ask me what I think, I am always up front and tell you exactly what I see and would "fix" in your images. I am delighted how well you all respond to that sort of criticism, and I think it has made many of you better photographers!
So, I've left some things, most of them minor, that I could see I would "fix" or change, but what do you see? No particular context here, just take it from the subject. I'll take things you like as well, if you want to "balance" your criticism! Thanks.
I might've not cropped the top off so close to the head, otherwise it's fine.
ReplyDeleteI also think it would better with the top corner cropped off. It might have worked better as a vertical with more of Jackson showing and less of the background.
ReplyDeletemaybe focused in on his eyes a little more to make them stand out and really capture his emotions and aww viewers
ReplyDeleteI agree about cropping the top. His face is in shadow, which is a little weird for a baby picture.
ReplyDeleteI like the lighting in this picture, and I also agree about that corner being cropped.
ReplyDeleteMaybe lighten the exposure a little, that way you can bring some more light and emotion to his face. But this is a really sweet photograph! What a cute baby! I like the angle that it was taken at and the fact that Jackson isn't looking directly at the camera.
ReplyDeleteAwesome guys! You all "get it"... your criticisms were spot on, meaningful, and supported by sound compositional judgement and understanding... Thank you all and I would appreciate anyone else commenting!
ReplyDeleteI think that the shadowing on Jackson is really good since it isn't common. Usually babies have their pictures taken in front of a bright white background playing with toys. This is great! The dark colors all come together really well and the light in his eyes and how the light somewhat plays on the little cute bit of drool on his lips puts a perfect touch on the photo. But I agree with everyone else, a cropping may be a good idea, maybe just before the leaves connect with branch. Keeping the leaves on the left will keep the balance of the photo.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great use of a close up photo. Maybe adding some light would make the photograph better. Other than that it is a great photograph.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very beautiful photo. And a very beautiful grandson. May he live a long, full, joyful life. :)
